Who we are

Forge Youth Theatre is an inclusive creative community in Bendigo for young people aged 5–25. Through age-based ensembles, participants build confidence, collaboration, and storytelling skills while working toward performances that celebrate their stories and growth. Learn more about our Ensembles

Our programs use a playful but professional approach, blending play, skill development, and ensemble work with a clear progression from our Embers Ensemble for children through to our Forge Ensemble for young adults.

At Forge Youth Theatre, we also have an award system designed to help participants gain skills and knowledge in live theatre development, stagecraft and performance — both on and off the stage. This structured pathway prepares young people for involvement in local community theatre groups and inspires future careers in the performing arts. Learn more about our Award System

At every stage, young people are supported to ignite their imagination, develop their voices, and shine on stage as part of a vibrant theatre family.

About the director

Forge Youth Theatre is led by Kerry Turpie (Bachelor of Education Prep-12, Bachelor of Theatre and Performance, and Bachelor of Arts - Honours), an experienced drama educator and theatre director with over twenty years of teaching and directing in schools and community theatre groups. Kerry has taught Drama across Victoria, bringing a wealth of experience in ensemble performance, stagecraft, and creative storytelling.

Passionate about creating brave and supportive spaces for creative young people, Kerry founded Forge Youth Theatre to help children and young adults build confidence, collaborate, and discover their unique voices on stage. With a background in both education and theatre practice, Kerry combines professional skill with a love of play, telling stories and ensuring every ensemble member can shine.

At the heart of Kerry’s work is a belief that theatre is for everyone — a place to grow, express, and belong.

Child Safety at Forge Youth Theatre

At Forge Youth Theatre, the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person is our top priority. We have zero tolerance for child abuse, harm or neglect, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all children, young people and their families.

All children have the right to feel safe, respected and valued. This includes:

  • First Nations children and young people

  • Children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

  • Children and young people with a disability

  • Children and young people who identify as LGBTQIA+

  • Children and young people who may not live at home

Our staff, tutors, and volunteers all hold valid Victorian Institute of Teaching Registration and/or Working With Children Checks, receive regular child safety training, and follow strict codes of conduct. We also ensure our rehearsal and performance spaces are regularly risk-assessed and safe for young people.

We encourage children and young people to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. They are supported to have a voice in decisions, to share ideas, and to tell us if they ever feel unsafe.
